This week has been exciting and confusing. Sunday, August 28th was my 44th wedding anniversary. We were going to go out for dinner, but decided to stay home instead.
But then Tuesday, I took my car back to pass the smog test and for the third time it failed. It still needed work done on it. Based on what the mechanic was telling me, it sounded like it was going to be very expensive.
Had I not taken the car to a garage for repair before going for a smog check and had a device on my car that was also telling me there was a problem, I might have thought a game was being played on me to get more money. However, this was a mechanic I trusted and had referred others to him and they were well pleased with his service.
Getting back to my car problem. I was feeling a little down at having to come up with more money for the car. I told my husband what had happened He looked at me and asked, “Why don’t you get another car?”
“I don’t have the funds for a car payment,” was my response.
“His was “Do you want a car or not?”
“Let’s go then”
I went, thinking how could we afford a car when we didn’t even have a down payment?
My husband asked the dealer about leasing a car. The dealer showed me several cars and I took a liking to the silver Elantra. The salesman told us we could put $500 down and told us what the payment would be. My husband asked what if he put $3,000 down? The salesman said “I’ll be right back.”
While he was gone, my husband asked me if I had the money? I gave him a look that could have buried him while he looked at me totally serious.
“Why did say $3,000 if you didn’t have it?” I asked. I was angry and he knew it. He just shrugged his shoulders and said nothing.
When the salesman returned, I said, “I guess we will have to put the $500 down.”
The salesman looked at me and then my husband, then said ok. My husband started laughing and said, “Don’t pay her any mind. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.” Then he pulled out the money for the down payment and signed the paperwork to make the monthly payments.
I left that dealership with a 2017 Elantra and the biggest smile on my face.
What made this even more special was I had asked God at the beginning of the year to let my car last til 2017 and I would get another car. Only I was thinking of something several years older. Instead God provided me with a 2017 this year because the dealership was out of 2016’s.
Don’t tell me He doesn’t answer prayers. That is why I know the other goals on my list are going to come to pass this year.
My favorite quote should be, “Ask and you shall receive.” It is a close second to my favorite quote. “Lo, I am with you always, even until the end of time.” Both are partial verses from the Bible. That is how they run in my mind. I have asked for many things from the Lord and He always answers. Not always the way I want Him to, but That is because when I asked, I didn’t clarify what I wanted.
The other verse is the one that is really important to me. There have been times when those words came to me when I most needed to hear them and they comforted me and helped me in times when fear or other trials and tribulations were strong in me. They are extra special to me over other quotes.
Today was funny. I am only sharing this because it made for a funny day. I had a 8 a.m. webinar call and a 9:30 a.m. meeting. I couldn’t get them to delay the 9:30 meeting because I knew the call would go pass 9:30. I arrived at my meeting place at 8 and sat in the car for an hour and a half on my webinar meeting. At 9:30, I went in to the other meeting while the webinar went on for another hour and a half.
I left there at 12 and decided I didn’t have time to make any stops because I had to get ready for my nephew’s wedding.
After getting ready, I went on the website to verify the address for my GPS. That is when I discovered I had made a mistake on the date. The wedding is tomorrow.
After I had a good laugh at myself, I was relieved, because I was really tired. Only, everybody in town has been calling me so I have not had an opportunity to get any rest. I think I will start turning my phone off on the weekends. Oh! Well! Might as well write.
My son has returned from Texas and he is as in love with Texas as I am. He plans on moving there and his wife has agreed to go with him.
I know these last two things have nothing to do with my favorite quotes, but I am in a writing mood and I might as well write while the fire is hot.
The lesson I learned about having goals and quotes, is to ask for what I want. It’s what we all hear all the time. We are also told to write it down, ask the Lord for what you want, then put it away and it will come to pass. Just be careful what you ask for and make sure you clarify what you want. It just might surprise you in what you get.
My next installment is my top 10 songs on my playlist. You’re in for a surprise.
Until next time, take care. lw
